This hotel was recommended in a wedding invite

The road, the windows are old so we could hear everything even the traffic lights beeping, you took the money out of my account before I had even arrived even though I received an email from you stating the account I gave you was just for a deposit, when I questionned this with the staff they were extremely unhelpful and just shrugged their shoulders

Lovely building in nice town. Room decorated in a modern clean style. Bed was very comfortable.

No hot water in the shower and when we informed them of this we were told this often happens. The phone in the room also didn't seem to work . Staff weren't very helpful in dealing with problems. For £79, I think these things need to be sorted. These tarnished an otherwise lovely stay.

The rooms are small but perfectly formed! They are comfortable and have everything you need.

I came as part of a group and one of the toilets had not been flushed - a basic cleaning point that should not have been missed!

Relaxing, friendly and the bed was very comfortable.

The rooms were grubby, the decor and furniture dated and shabby, our first room was tiny and the inside door handle fell off, which meant we may have been unable to get out. Our second room was big but sloped and faced the beer garden, the sash windows wouldn't stay open, one wouldn't open at all. This room was grubby with just a stand for our clothes with metal hangers swinging from it. The shower was broken. It was too hot and the noise from downstairs until 1.30 am was ridiculous, drunken teenagers and boy racers racing up and down the street. The bed was really uncomfortable, it was like sleeping on the floor. When I complained one member of staff merely said I was the first to complain about their beds, I was not being picky it was horendous, the worst night sleep I have had in ages. We only stayed one night, they refunded the next two.

Great place for a wedding/party venue with marquee out the back. Not so good if you want to get sleep before 12.30! I think it is more of a place to crash when you are at said party. Saying that, the room was nicely decorated and looked as though the bathroom was newly done up. Water temperature was a little temperamental, but once you turned the bath taps, the shower seemed to be hot again. Odd, but it seemed to work!

There is no reception, you just "check-in" at the bar. Unfortunately we arrived early evening as a birthday party was kicking off which made the process even more difficult. The only staff in the hotel seemed to be the bar staff!! A very odd set-up! There was no food being served on Sunday evening either which was a little annoying as it was pouring with rain, but there are some ok restaurants up the street, so it turned out ok in the end. Definitely not a "retreat" to peace and quiet for the weekend!!

      Cooked breakfast excellent

1.Poor state of maintenance to fixtures and fittings inour room. 2. Room not made up when we arrived at 4pm. 3. On our return lack of tea making facilities. 4 We had to breakfast with work being undertaken in the bar area around us

Lovely comfortable hotel and great food.

Great hotel - only problem was basically see-through curtains so was woken from 6am and difficult to get back to sleep with the light.

Great location. Loved the church bells.

Couldn't get the bathroom window open, but it didn't seem to matter.

      Courteousness of staff

Noise in the car park outside our room until almost dawn.

      Nicely decorated and furnished

Poorly organised, short staffed. Little touches missing

Good freshly cooked breakfasts, friendly staff. Nice old building.

Our family room was above the bar and the speakers in the bar were mounted in the ceiling which meant we could hear the music in our room nearly as well as downstairs! Not ideal with children and we had to ask the staff to turn the music down twice.

    • Group of friends
      3.8

Pretty building in a nice little village

Staff were dismissive. Although friends in the more expensive rooms had nice facilities, the single room was overpriced, the shower was mouldy, the bathroom light was broken and there was no mirror in the room.

    • Single
      4.6

The fact that it was cheap.

The fact that there were never enough staff working so the bar was unattended for large periods and there was clearly a problem with pigeons on the roof.

I liked nothing about the royston

I did not like the owner found him in my opinion very rude and foul mouthed to such an extent I refused to stay the second night which I hadalready paid for !
